7 Reasons Why You Should Be Listening To Old Time Radio Show

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 5:02 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Are you sick of reality TV shows and the rest of the garbage that makes up the TV schedule these days?

Oh yes, there are still a few classics around such as CSI, but many people would agree that ninety per cent of what’s on these days is hardly worth watching.

There is an alternative and it’s one that has a lot of advantages over the square box in the corner of the room. This alternative is called old time radio and I’m going to give you seven reasons why you should switch of your large screen plasma TV and listen-up.

First let me quickly tell you what old time radio is.

Old time radio covers the period from the start of the 1930s through to the very early 1960s. It’s often referred to as the “Golden Age of Radio”. These were the decades when radio was the main medium of mass entertainment and when America led the way in creating some of the best, and most loved radio shows ever to have been broadcast.

Old time radio covers everything from classic drama like the Lux Radio Show through to spine-tingling thrillers like Orson Welles War of the World and The Shadow. You’ll hear hilarious comedies like The Bob Hope Show and Fibber McGee & Molly and shows for children and the young at heart such as Superman and The Green Hornet.

You might be thinking “I’m too young for that kind of stuff” or maybe you’re thinking “Okay, but where can I hear those classic broadcasts these days” well let me give you the “7 Reasons Why You Should Be Listening to Old Time Radio Shows”.

Reason 1 - Great entertainment has a long shelf life

If old time radio shows were poor entertainment these shows wouldn’t have stood the test of time. The fact that there are over 30,000 old time radio show recordings still in existence makes it, without doubt, one of the most well archived formats of entertainment of all time.

Reason 2 - Who needs more misery?

Isn’t there enough misery in the world? Wars, famine, crime, corruption. Isn’t it good to have a break from all this misery? Old time radio can provide you with that break. Just put on your headphones and escape to mysterious lands whenever you get the urge. It’s got to be one of the best forms of escapism ever invented.

Reason 3 - It’s not expensive?

For the price of a burger and fries you can enjoy hundred and hundreds of hours of classic radio shows. You can burn them to CD and listen in the car. You copy them onto your MP3 player and listen whilst you jog. You can enjoy the shows again and again whenever you like.

Reason 4 - No bad language

You can listen to old time radio shows for thousands of hours and the worst word you’re likely to hear will be “darn”. This is a medium that boasted some of the most talented writers in the world, many of whom went on to be best-selling authors or top script writers in Hollywood.

Reason 5 - Ideal for Children

Do you worry about what you are exposing your children to when they watch TV. Even shows that are supposed to be appropriate for youngsters seem to be full of innuendo or even inappropriate language. With old time radio show you don’t have to worry about what they might hear as the shows of this era adhered to far stricter ethical codes.

Reason 6 - Collecting old time radio shows is a great hobby

Not only are these shows great to listen to, but they’re also great fun to collect. There are few things more satisfying than tracking down that final elusive episode that gives you the complete run of a series or uncovering a gem that few people have heard for half a century.

Reason 7 - Brush up on your history

Old radio shows are a wonderful way to learn more about history. Without making any effort you’ll learn about everything from the Civil War right through to World War II. You’ll hear news broadcasts covering events as they happened and even the advertisements will help you to learn about how different things were back in the middle of last century.

Well, that’s seven great reasons why you should be listening to old time radio shows. It’s a wonderful form of entertainment and more accessible today than it ever has been since its glory days.

So turn-off and tune-in today!

Why Horoscopes Are Still Hotly Debated Today

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 10:14 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Horoscopes, and more specifically the whole science of astrology, have been a hotly debated topic for years. Created in ancient cultures, systems of reading the stars and the cosmos have always played an important part of ancient societies. Take the ancient Aztecs, Mayans, Babylonians, Greeks, or Egyptians for example.

The Great Pyramids, the only remaining wonder of the ancient world, heavily rely on the positions of the Sun and planets in its design, while other aspects of astrology have been incorporated into the architecture. Another example of celestial bodies being incorporated into the architecture of ancient civilizations is El Castillo at Chichen Itza, an ancient Mayan society.

The steps of the temple are aligned with the equinoxes, and on those days, it looks like serpents are running up and down the steps. There are a countless number of other examples of the positioning of celestial bodies incorporated into architecture, not only in ancient civilizations, but also in modern day society.

Horoscopes, for lack of a better word, are more or less a prediction of the future. The predictions are determined by the positions of certain celestial bodies, including the Sun, the Moon, the planets, though Earth is not included as a planet, asteroids, and even the metaphysical second moon of Earth, Lilith, with respect to their positions within certain constellations, determined by your time of birth.

The position of the Sun within these constellations is known as your star sign or Zodiac sign, though it can be referred to as a House. There are twelve zodiac signs, each which is named after characters in ancient Roman legends and myths.

They are Aries (The Ram), Taurus (The Bull), Gemini Cancer (The Crab), Leo (The Lion), Virgo (The Virgin), Libra (The Scale), Scorpio (The Scorpion), Sagittarius (The Centaur), Capricorn (The Sea-goat), Aquarius (The Pitcher), Pisces (The Fish). Each of these star signs has an Element, either Air, Fire, Water, or Earth, a ruling planet, and certain personality traits that the people born with this sign all share.

Today’s system of astrology and reading the stars is based on that created by the ancient Greeks, which is known as your horoscope. The word horoscope comes from the Greek words achoroac, meaning hours, and acskoposac, meaning to look at.

Astrology Has Been Important Topic for Centuries

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 5:54 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Ancient astrology is the type of astrology that was practiced by astrologers hundreds and thousands of years ago in medieval Europe, ancient Arabic, Greek, and Indian cultures. There has been a resurgence of ancient forms of astrology in the early 21st century, researching and investigating the ancient techniques and adding them to the set of modern astrological tools.

Modern western astrology has become more focused on psychological analysis of the individual’s chart and less and less on the actual predictive elements of astrology such as marriages, accidents, health issues, family and other life areas. Western astrologers became more and more interested in understanding the roots of their art, which were obscured by the ravages of history like the Dark Ages of Europe.

There has been a concerted effort at bringing back to modern use techniques that were used in the ancient world such as rulerships, planetary periods, solar and lunar returns, and such things as oriental and occidental placements of planets in a chart. There has also been a resurgence of Vedic astrology in the western world. Vedic astrology (also called Jyotish, “science of light”).

The chief virtues of ancient astrology are that they retain the original mindset and intent of their creators who had a decidedly less materialistic, fear-based, and egoistic emotional disposition, than their modern counterparts. Supposedly this gives greater spiritual and predictive power if the techniques are emulated as closely as possible. In practice this has proven to be true, giving an added practical dimension to astrology that the west has been lacking in for many years.

This is not to say that western astrologers aren’t good at predicting the events in the life of any given client, it is the use of the ancient astrology techniques however that have greatly enhanced their ability to do it. Yet the ancient techniques of astrology are still only known by a relatively small amount of western astrologers, the word is spreading though.

BIG BIG Savings in FiOS TV

Filed under: Entertainment Events, Market Patrons, Tagerati — admin at 2:51 am on Sunday, August 9, 2009

Finally, new tv options were available in our neighborhood so we just connected to Verizon’s new FIOS TV, which is fiber-optic based. Where I live, a lot of people are on the waiting list, but I joined this month and installation took place only this past week. Previously we had FIOS internet along with 15 megabits down stream and upstream. Ten dollars a month is all that the premium service costs. and have been pretty content with that

Because I currently has Verizon FIOS internet service, connecting my TV was a simple installation. He was able to utilize the Coax splitter I already had in place, splitting the wire leading to the router. Once inside, the coax splits and goes into all the rooms and then one of the downstream cables connects with the Verizon Internet Router’s Coax. From that point the router communicated TCP/IP over RJ-45 and provides the house, but this is also used to assign IP addresses to the DVR over coax. (DVRs) that comes included along with your FIOS TV bundle.

While the interface is really intuitive, in addition it comes with lots of innovative shortcuts that you’ll find while using it. For instance, while viewing TV, choose one of the direction indicators on the controls to take you For use as a shortcut to a variety of functions, instantaneously. For instances, hitting up navigates to a split-screen TV Guide with the TV on the left, while down navigates to a half-screen floating guide. You can get to the full-screen guide by pressing Guide once, or go to the split-screen by pressing it twice. Hit info once for a popup, hit it again for a full-screen page.

This DVR holds approximately 17 hours of High Definition content or 60 hours of SD TV. (Similar Defintion) or any possible mixture of the two of them that you can dream up. Like with the majority of DVR devices, it is possible to adjust every recording as “protected”. (not deleted in an automatic manner) You may fix yourself in a queue with the last x recordings. It’s possible to choose just the latest programs, or every show, with reruns included.

The price for core package is 43$ a month. For this you get several DVR options ranging from standard HD, standard DVR and HD DVR. We found that paying $60 for cable TV wasn’t a good enough value considering how little TV we watch. Because they and not the cable providers set their own costs, HBO, Showtime, and other premium channels cost the same as on cable.

All things considered, we’ve been totally delighted! I am satisfied with Verizon’s picture quality and its set-top box; wish they come out with more choice of on-Demand movies and of course update the set-top boxes It is my opinion that the first month of Verizon FIOS TV in my state has set the stage right for its great progress. I feel that local cable does not compete with this service.

Strolling Magic is so versatile it can be performed anywhere and everywhere. Imagine booking Josh to come to your next corporate function to mingle around with your guests before the dinner, and during the cocktail hour to get everyone in the right “mood” for the evening.

Clients often hire Josh for the atmosphere. With Josh’s exceptional sleight-of-hand magic with cards and coins your guests will literally be enthralled for hours. There is no need for a table or any special lighting, so Strolling Magic is perfect for any venue in the world!

On top of that, recently, Josh was asked to perform at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA, a very, very exclusive society for magicians. You need to be very good to perform at the Castle and Josh had the honor of being asked to perform there. Most magicians never get that opportunity to experience that.

It would be in your best interest to book Josh right now for his Strolling Magic, before the likes of Lexmark, Toshiba, Sony, or some other big Fortune 500 Company does.

Finding the right person to spend the rest of your life with may be the most important search, and decision, you ever make. For people in Las Vegas, it is not a decision to be made superficially. Many lonely hearts in Las Vegas long to acquire a love that’s one in a million, a soul mate, no matter how much it cost. Nowadays there are so many options for finding that special someone that you can seriously streamline the search process instead of wasting too much time and money on those who don’t fulfill your needs and desires.

In order to avoid the heartache and pain of numerous failed relationships, look for an expert matchmaker to help you find the person that is right for you. A trained matchmaker will meet face to face with potential prospects and take the time to converse with them to identify their traits and characteristics and likes and dislikes to match what you, the client, is looking for in a relationship. By acquiring the services of an expert matchmaker, you have increased your odds of finding everlasting love. A Las Vegas matchmaker will cost more than an Internet matchmaker date service like eHarmony, and you can essentially view a matchmaker as a headhunter of sorts - only they are looking for a relationship partner for you instead of a job.

Using a matchmaker to locate a soul mate may not be for everybody, just like a matchmaker date service is also not everyone’s cup of tea. Nevertheless, whatever decision you make, keep in mind that finding your special partner is ultimately the most important process in your life and when you finally strike gold, the relationship should be treated as a precious commodity. You just need to select your process of finding a relationship partner wisely.

4 Factors to Keep in Mind When Searching for a Flick

In the 21st century, many people still very much enjoy spending an evening out at local movie theater. However, with the costs associated with a typical ticket to a motion picture show, a person needs to take care to make certain that the picture selected is well worth the money being spent. There are some steps you can take in regard how do you identify and find the best movies.

1. When it comes to identifying and finding the best movies, the first step that you should consider taking is reading reviews in newspapers and magazines and watching reviews on television. Of course, many people are quick to pan reviews. These people make a number of assumptions about reviews and reviewers and oftentimes conclude that a review simply is not going to be helpful when it comes considering movies. Naturally, whether a person enjoys and appreciates a certain types of movies is a matter of personal taste in many instances. With that said, if you take the time to read and watch a number of reviews by different reviewers, you will find that there are reviewers that share your tastes and likes when it comes to films and motion pictures. In other words, you will find a reviewer (or more than one reviewer) who tends to like the movies that also enjoy. In time, you will find a reviewer (or reviewer) that you can rely on when it comes to newly released motion pictures.

2. In your efforts to find the best movies that you will enjoy, the Internet has become a valuable resource. One of the tools that you will want to consider taking advantage of when it comes to finding movies that you will appreciate and enjoy, are video clips that are now to be found on the World Wide Web. By previewing these video clips of soon to be released of just released motion pictures, you will be able to get at least a taste of what a particular film is all about. Of course, in releasing these clips over the Net, movie producers take care to make certain that the clips feature well done sections of the film. In other words, the clips that are placed on the Net are the best of the best when it comes to a given motion picture in most instances.

3. In working on identifying movies that you will enjoy and appreciate, keep in mind the value of word of mouth. In life, it is natural that you have similar tastes to your friends. Therefore, talk to those friends whose opinions that you value and see what they have to say about a given motion picture. If you have friends in which you share interests and tastes, you very well may enjoy the same types of motion pictures that appeal to your friends. (On the other hand, we all have at least some people in our lives that are polar opposites. Therefore, if you have such a person in your life, if they like a motion picture it may be one you hate and vice versa.)

4. Finally, as you go about the process of finding the best movies, you naturally pay attention to actors in different films. Most people tend to have favorites and tend to gravitate towards films that feature beloved actors. However, do not stop at paying attention only to the actors that are playing in a particular motion picture. Look at who is directing and who is producing. In Hollywood, indeed throughout the motion picture industry, there are directors and producers that truly are hot properties at any given point in time. By paying attention to who is directing and who is directing a given film, you will be able to have better luck landing on motion pictures that you will enjoy.

When considering ways to find the best possible movies, by following these tips outlined in this article, you will end up being satisfied with the amount of money that you spend on tickets to movies. You will fin that your money is better spent by following these pointers when it comes to selecting a motion picture.

Drum Tips - Why didn’t you get the Gig?

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 10:58 am on Monday, May 4, 2009

Have you been auditioning for different bands and not getting the gig? Musicians are very critical of the other musicians they play with, although they will probably not be brutally honest about what they see and hear. We don’t want to hurt your feelings so we say something nice and then never call you again. I have auditioned many, many musicians who never got a call back. Here are some the most important aspects of an audition - mistakes musicians have made when auditioning for one of my bands:

1) Skill - can you keep up?

I have auditioned many guys thought they could play but couldn’t keep proper time or didn’t know what chord changes were going on, got lost in every song - just couldn’t keep up musically.

2) Listening - are you paying attention?

I have played with a few really skilled musicians who paid absolutely no attention to what was going on around them. It was like they had spent years practicing by themselves in their bedroom. They could play amazing things but what they played made no sense in the context of the band. The notes you play should complement what everybody else is doing and the song should work as a whole.

3) Personality - are you a nice person?

This is a big deal - I have played some shows with great players who live their life a sentence or two from a punch in the face. Remember when you were a kid and folks told you “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I have met many great musicians who desperately need to revisit that concept. They were so full of negativity that it was really hard to be in the same room with them for very long.

Their Secret Lives or My Ezine Has a Love Life

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 3:22 am on Monday, May 4, 2009

I’ve just discovered something amazing. The Roundup, my bi-weekly
ezine, has a love life! As a matter of fact, it appears to be doing much
better than I am in that respect. You see, The Roundup regularly receives
email messages sent to its subscription address. The last one started,
“Hi, It’s been awhile since we talked. I’m wondering if you’ve been
thinking about our last conversation….”

Oh, Roundup, you little devil you! Have you been sneaking around
behind my back with other ezines?

It’s not just The Roundup that I have to worry about. I also have a number
of autoresponders that I use. In case anyone doesn’t understand the term
“autoresponder,” it’s an automated email address. When you send a blank
email to an autoresponder, the technology automatically sends you a
pre-written message. I use autoresponders on my web site to give visitors
samples of my freely distributed articles. Well, danged if my autoresponders
aren’t carrying on illicit affairs behind my back as well. One of them is
apparently involved with the same sender whose wanton behavior with
The Roundup is causing me so much concern. This autoresponder
receives the identical email message about remembering previous
conversations. Jeesh, I could have a major war on my hands if this keeps
up. All I need is for the Roundup to find out about the autoresponder,
and then what?

Oh, wait! A new turn of events! The Roundup just received an email
with “Get Your Share of E-Z Money” in the subject line. This oughtta
give it a competitive edge. As far as I know, the autoresponder is stone,
cold broke. It’ll be no match for the soon-to-be stinking rich Roundup.

Speaking of autoresponders, another one of mine — and I am embarrassed
about this — has apparently been inviting communication with Heather,
a gorgeous 19 year old who has to take nude pictures of herself to pay her
college tuition. Well, Heather, I want you to understand something. My
autoresponder does not have its own credit card. ‘Nuff said? But you might
try The Roundup. It’ll soon be making lots of E-Z Money!

But this email intrigue continues. A new message just came in addressed
to “Undisclosed Recipients.” The subject says “Hello, how have you
been?33, “
and the body asks whether Undisclosed Recipient is drowning in Credit
Card Debt. Hmmm! I wonder where I should forward this. The Roundup
won’t need it, what with all this E-Z money soon to be coming in, so
maybe I’ll send it to that frisky autoresponder. Perhaps when it gets rid
of its existing credit card debt, it can get a charge card and help Heather
get her education. I’m sure it’ll be only two or three seconds before I
receive another email offering sure-fire guarantees around getting a credit
card. That’ll come in handy for Heather and Auto.

But wait! This is the last straw! Now my web site is sabotaging me
behind my back. Now as far as I know, and I do know because I
designed the site, it contains a number of resources for business people
and entrepreneurs. But what’s this? I now have an email from a sender
“who has just visited my site and thinks I would be interested in hearing
more about an opportunity involving horses.” Horses? Is my web site
self-generating equine-related content at night when I sleep? Does it
have a dual-personality? This opens up possibilities for a catchy new
logo: “Business by day. At night — oats and hay!”

Such is the allure of my technology’s secret life. But this does answer
one question for me. Now I realize that spammers are actually targeting
ezines, autoresponders, and web sites. It makes a lot of sense. After all,
no actual person would ever fall for this stuff.
