Filed under: Entertainment Events, Recreation Resources — admin at 1:57 am on Tuesday, August 31, 2010

There are various reasons to see Les Miserables in London’s West End. The long running remarkable musical has packed theaters around the earth for ages. Making the West End its home since 1985, the hundreds of admirers for this exceptional stage performance musical are testament to the great portrayal of the characters brought to life on such a deep and heartfelt level.

The tale of Les Miserables is set in early 19th century France and is based on Victor Hugos 1862 entitled Les Miserables. The one of a kind tale of characters that struggle against all odds for redemption is both charming and involving. Via the lives of student revolutionaries and factory workers the story of Les Miserables unfurls before your very eyes.

The creation of Victor Hugo, Les Miserables persists to be one of the most thriving musicals the planet has ever seen. Les Miserables first opened up its doors on December 4, 1985 at the Palace Theatre. The Palace Theatre shows were the tip of the iceberg as just previous to the grand West End opening Les Miserables felt a sell out period at the Barbican in London.

Les Miserables has had some of the theatre industry gifted actors bring to life the most heralding shows the theatre masses had ever witnessed. Newly confirmed shows are predicted to feature one of the pop star Jonas Brothers delivering to the stage yet another resounding yet unparalleled element. Nick Jonas, 17, is timetabled to make his West End debut as Marius from June 21st.

Another good rationale to go to Les Miserables is the introduction of British singing sensation Susan Boyle. Boyle, 49, is in discussions with the production bosses to take to the stage on time for the musicals 25th anniversary shows. Boyle broke onto the world scene during her audition for ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’ Her haunting execution of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ made her a household name overnight. Boyle is predicted to take up the part of Fantine and perform her world famous version of ‘I Dreamed A Dream.’

Les Miserables approaches its 25th anniversary in the west end. The celebration of this great accomplishment makes this musical a must and experience. The production celebrated the 21st anniversary in a grand way in 2006. Queens Theatre has been the traditional location for the world renowned musical production. The history of the musical encapsulated within the halls and corridors of this outstanding theatre is legendary.

Last of all, the most predominate reason to go and watch Miserables is so that you also can enjoy a bit of history and theatre magic. The Tony Award winning musical took top honors for its most famed song ‘I Dreamed A Dream.’ Through out the years ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ has resonated significantly with all who have had the chance to hear it. ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ has made several cover versions since its 1985 introduction. Some of the most renowned artist cover recordings contain Neil Diamond, Arethra Franklin, David Essex, Michael Crawford and Susan Boyle.

ESPN 3D Coming in June! ESPN’s 3-D venture, called ESPN3D, is technically the world’s first 3-D network, as it was announced before Discovery’s network. The network will launch on June 11 with the first 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer match as South Africa takes on Mexico. Additional programming will include more than 85 live 3-D events throughout the network’s first year of service.

ESPN 3D will also include up to 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches, coverage of the Summer X Games, and college basketball. College football in 3-D will dominate the fall, and even the BCS National Championship will be broadcast in 3-D on January, 10, 2011. Sony will be the exclusive sponsor of the new station, and is currently working with the PGA Tour to produce golf programming in 3D later this year.

The network’s launch comes after ESPN has spent years testing technology. Most recently, it tested the 3D equipment during the USC vs. OSU college football game, broadcasting the game to theaters around the nation. According to ESPN, 3D is the future of sports programming.

7 Reasons Why You Should Be Listening To Old Time Radio Show

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 5:02 am on Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Are you sick of reality TV shows and the rest of the garbage that makes up the TV schedule these days?

Oh yes, there are still a few classics around such as CSI, but many people would agree that ninety per cent of what’s on these days is hardly worth watching.

There is an alternative and it’s one that has a lot of advantages over the square box in the corner of the room. This alternative is called old time radio and I’m going to give you seven reasons why you should switch of your large screen plasma TV and listen-up.

First let me quickly tell you what old time radio is.

Old time radio covers the period from the start of the 1930s through to the very early 1960s. It’s often referred to as the “Golden Age of Radio”. These were the decades when radio was the main medium of mass entertainment and when America led the way in creating some of the best, and most loved radio shows ever to have been broadcast.

Old time radio covers everything from classic drama like the Lux Radio Show through to spine-tingling thrillers like Orson Welles War of the World and The Shadow. You’ll hear hilarious comedies like The Bob Hope Show and Fibber McGee & Molly and shows for children and the young at heart such as Superman and The Green Hornet.

You might be thinking “I’m too young for that kind of stuff” or maybe you’re thinking “Okay, but where can I hear those classic broadcasts these days” well let me give you the “7 Reasons Why You Should Be Listening to Old Time Radio Shows”.

Reason 1 - Great entertainment has a long shelf life

If old time radio shows were poor entertainment these shows wouldn’t have stood the test of time. The fact that there are over 30,000 old time radio show recordings still in existence makes it, without doubt, one of the most well archived formats of entertainment of all time.

Reason 2 - Who needs more misery?

Isn’t there enough misery in the world? Wars, famine, crime, corruption. Isn’t it good to have a break from all this misery? Old time radio can provide you with that break. Just put on your headphones and escape to mysterious lands whenever you get the urge. It’s got to be one of the best forms of escapism ever invented.

Reason 3 - It’s not expensive?

For the price of a burger and fries you can enjoy hundred and hundreds of hours of classic radio shows. You can burn them to CD and listen in the car. You copy them onto your MP3 player and listen whilst you jog. You can enjoy the shows again and again whenever you like.

Reason 4 - No bad language

You can listen to old time radio shows for thousands of hours and the worst word you’re likely to hear will be “darn”. This is a medium that boasted some of the most talented writers in the world, many of whom went on to be best-selling authors or top script writers in Hollywood.

Reason 5 - Ideal for Children

Do you worry about what you are exposing your children to when they watch TV. Even shows that are supposed to be appropriate for youngsters seem to be full of innuendo or even inappropriate language. With old time radio show you don’t have to worry about what they might hear as the shows of this era adhered to far stricter ethical codes.

Reason 6 - Collecting old time radio shows is a great hobby

Not only are these shows great to listen to, but they’re also great fun to collect. There are few things more satisfying than tracking down that final elusive episode that gives you the complete run of a series or uncovering a gem that few people have heard for half a century.

Reason 7 - Brush up on your history

Old radio shows are a wonderful way to learn more about history. Without making any effort you’ll learn about everything from the Civil War right through to World War II. You’ll hear news broadcasts covering events as they happened and even the advertisements will help you to learn about how different things were back in the middle of last century.

Well, that’s seven great reasons why you should be listening to old time radio shows. It’s a wonderful form of entertainment and more accessible today than it ever has been since its glory days.

So turn-off and tune-in today!

Why Horoscopes Are Still Hotly Debated Today

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 10:14 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Horoscopes, and more specifically the whole science of astrology, have been a hotly debated topic for years. Created in ancient cultures, systems of reading the stars and the cosmos have always played an important part of ancient societies. Take the ancient Aztecs, Mayans, Babylonians, Greeks, or Egyptians for example.

The Great Pyramids, the only remaining wonder of the ancient world, heavily rely on the positions of the Sun and planets in its design, while other aspects of astrology have been incorporated into the architecture. Another example of celestial bodies being incorporated into the architecture of ancient civilizations is El Castillo at Chichen Itza, an ancient Mayan society.

The steps of the temple are aligned with the equinoxes, and on those days, it looks like serpents are running up and down the steps. There are a countless number of other examples of the positioning of celestial bodies incorporated into architecture, not only in ancient civilizations, but also in modern day society.

Horoscopes, for lack of a better word, are more or less a prediction of the future. The predictions are determined by the positions of certain celestial bodies, including the Sun, the Moon, the planets, though Earth is not included as a planet, asteroids, and even the metaphysical second moon of Earth, Lilith, with respect to their positions within certain constellations, determined by your time of birth.

The position of the Sun within these constellations is known as your star sign or Zodiac sign, though it can be referred to as a House. There are twelve zodiac signs, each which is named after characters in ancient Roman legends and myths.

They are Aries (The Ram), Taurus (The Bull), Gemini Cancer (The Crab), Leo (The Lion), Virgo (The Virgin), Libra (The Scale), Scorpio (The Scorpion), Sagittarius (The Centaur), Capricorn (The Sea-goat), Aquarius (The Pitcher), Pisces (The Fish). Each of these star signs has an Element, either Air, Fire, Water, or Earth, a ruling planet, and certain personality traits that the people born with this sign all share.

Today’s system of astrology and reading the stars is based on that created by the ancient Greeks, which is known as your horoscope. The word horoscope comes from the Greek words achoroac, meaning hours, and acskoposac, meaning to look at.

Astrology Has Been Important Topic for Centuries

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 5:54 am on Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Ancient astrology is the type of astrology that was practiced by astrologers hundreds and thousands of years ago in medieval Europe, ancient Arabic, Greek, and Indian cultures. There has been a resurgence of ancient forms of astrology in the early 21st century, researching and investigating the ancient techniques and adding them to the set of modern astrological tools.

Modern western astrology has become more focused on psychological analysis of the individual’s chart and less and less on the actual predictive elements of astrology such as marriages, accidents, health issues, family and other life areas. Western astrologers became more and more interested in understanding the roots of their art, which were obscured by the ravages of history like the Dark Ages of Europe.

There has been a concerted effort at bringing back to modern use techniques that were used in the ancient world such as rulerships, planetary periods, solar and lunar returns, and such things as oriental and occidental placements of planets in a chart. There has also been a resurgence of Vedic astrology in the western world. Vedic astrology (also called Jyotish, “science of light”).

The chief virtues of ancient astrology are that they retain the original mindset and intent of their creators who had a decidedly less materialistic, fear-based, and egoistic emotional disposition, than their modern counterparts. Supposedly this gives greater spiritual and predictive power if the techniques are emulated as closely as possible. In practice this has proven to be true, giving an added practical dimension to astrology that the west has been lacking in for many years.

This is not to say that western astrologers aren’t good at predicting the events in the life of any given client, it is the use of the ancient astrology techniques however that have greatly enhanced their ability to do it. Yet the ancient techniques of astrology are still only known by a relatively small amount of western astrologers, the word is spreading though.
